The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Sociology.
Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the assistant professor of sociology will be expected to teach introduction to sociology, as well as gerontology/aging courses. In addition to these teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is expected to hold a terminal degree and be an active member of the department and university community as demonstrated by pursuing an active research agenda, by serving on committees, and by advising students. The position is a tenure-track, 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
* Earned doctorate in Sociology or Gerontology (or closely related field with minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in sociology) by August 1, 2011
* Academic background and expertise to teach Introduction to Sociology and sociology courses in Gerontology/Aging
Preferred Qualifications:
* Potential for attracting external funding
* Prior college teaching experience
Screening of applications begins September 15, 2010, and continues until the position is filled. Position starting date is Augusta 1, 2011.
