The Department of Social Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream appointment at the Assistant Professor level with primary interests in the sociology of gender starting July 1, 2011.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or closely related field at the time of appointment or be very close to completion. Candidates must also have a record of excellence in research and teaching and be able to communicate effectively as an undergraduate and graduate teacher, and will be expected to teach core and large enrolment courses in Sociology.
The appointment is at the University of Toronto Scarborough, which is a research-intensive institution with an interdisciplinary commitment, a multicultural student body, and a modern campus. The University offers the opportunity to conduct research, teach and live in one of the most diverse cities in the world. The University also offers opportunities to work in a range of collaborative programs and centers of research.
The successful candidate will teach in the undergraduate program at the University of Toronto Scarborough, particularly core and large enrolment courses in Sociology. She/he will be a member of the Graduate Department of Sociology, University of Toronto, will be expected to teach in its graduate programs and she/he will be expected to develop an independently funded program of research. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to participate in developing new graduate programs at Scarborough. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
