Grinnell College invites applications for a two-year Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sociology to begin in August 2011. Eligible candidates must have received their Ph.D. in Sociology in 2008 or later. The Fellowship includes a salary based on that of an incoming Assistant Professor, benefits, and support for research and travel. The grant which funds this position requires that candidates be United States citizens. Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college. The College’s curriculum is founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion of a major. The annual teaching load for the Fellow is two courses per year (one per semester) and will include one regularly offered course in the Sociology Department curriculum and one course based on the Fellow’s areas of expertise. Possible teaching areas include Introduction to Sociology, Contemporary Sociological Theory, or other courses in the regular curriculum of the Sociology Department. The Fellow also will be expected to share his or her research with the Grinnell community and to be a contributing member of the Sociology Department faculty. Preference will be given to applicants who have teaching experience.
