Qualitative Scholar in Human Development and Social Policy
Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level working in the inductive theory-building research tradition. We seek scholars with an innovative research program whose work centers on empirically grounded theoretical claims with respect to human development and/or policy in social, organizational, or political contexts. The ideal candidate will be a cutting-edge qualitative researcher who has expertise in one or more methodologies in the qualitative tradition (e.g., field-based ethnography, narrative approaches, content or network analysis, comparative case analysis, ethnomethodology). Candidates with a Ph.D in education, human development, organizational sciences, political science, sociology, or another relevant discipline are encouraged to apply. A substantive program of research relevant to human development or policy is essential. An appreciation for mixed and computational methods is desirable.
The review of applications will begin on October 11, 2010 and applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their materials prior to that date. Applicants should submit electronically a letter outlining their research program and experience, a current CV, scholarly writing samples, and three letters of reference, to Professor James Spillane, Search Committee Chair, c/o Laura Salus at l-salus@northwestern.edu. Northwestern is located in an attractive lakefront community adjacent to Chicago. Northwestern University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty. It welcomes applications from women and members of minority groups, as well as others who would bring additional dimensions to the university’s research and teaching missions.
