The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in U.S. Latino Studies to begin in August 2011. This appointment will be 50% each in Sociology and in Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies, with a tenure home in Sociology. The person in this position will contribute to the BA, MA, and PhD programs in the Department of Sociology and the new BA in Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies. The person in this position will also serve on the advisory board for the U.S. Latino Studies certificate program.
We seek a person specializing in U.S. Latino Sociology who is strongly committed to both teaching and research. The candidate must be able to teach courses in U.S. Latino Studies and Sociology courses in his/her area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates whose research builds upon existing departmental strengths in analysis of inequality and institutions, and who demonstrate a record of or potential for strong scholarship, publication in prominent outlets, and research supported by external funding. PhD or ABD (PhD completion by May 2012) in Sociology or related field required, with completion of the PhD by August 2011 preferred.
Salary is competitive with salaries at other research universities. The teaching load is four courses per academic year.
