Hi everyone,
Does anyone know (or can point me to) the average review times for the following journals?:
American Journal of Sociology Social Problems
Thanks! Mark

There's a wiki that has info on some journals, although it doesn't get a ton of traffic: www.wikihost.org/w/socijournals/startMy experience has been @6 months for AJS. I don't know about Social Problems.

My experiences with AJS have also been between 4 and 6 months. A colleague waited for 18 months on an R&R but that is obviously extreme. For Social Problems, I've only submitted once but the wait time for initial reviews was a bit less than 3 months, then after we resubmitted it took 3 weeks for the final decision. ASR's turnaround has been 3 months or less in my my experience, but the new editors aren't so fun to work with (conflicting demands from different editors, etc.).

Submitted to Social Problems in mid-Oct and had an R&R by mid-Feb. Hope that helps.

Review times vary and depends on the journal. My experience with Social Problems is similar to anonu. However, I wrote a letter to the editor of Social Problems asking about the status of my paper on the fifth month. Based on my understanding, the editor had to remind the reviewers to submit their comments/evaluations. My experience with other journals have been about a three month turn-around.
