Because it's helpful for people who may not have received the official rejection letter yet. Sometimes departments don't get back to people for weeks...or never. Knowing the names would be interesting, but this is helpful enough for right now.
We know the job market is angst-producing, but try not to antagonize a fellow forumite trying to shed light on the process.
