When do people usually arrive at/depart from ASA? The website says the conference is Aug 20-23 -- so do people arrive on the 20th or the 19th? And should I plan to leave on the 23 or 24th? Thanks!

Thousands of people. Do whatever. Nobody will be expecting you to be there for any specific amount of time. If you're planning to do the employment service (which was fairly pointless last year) you'll want to be there for a long enough amount of time (at least 2 full days maybe) to have slots available for interviews. Go for the whole thing if you want. Go for a day if you want. I'd guess that 2-3 nites is the norm. That first day is a short one, though. Maybe fly in that nite or the next morning. You could also check the schedule when it pops up to see if there are any days with a lot of presentations that you're just dying to see or if there are workshops or something being offered on any particular day.

I've always gone for the whole event. It is a nice break from being where I'm at (which is less than exciting ). My mentor gave me this advice when I first starting going: Pick a couple sessions that look interesting, do your talk, and have fun. You don't have to do everything just because you are there. I took my girlfriend with me to Atlanta last year and we did a couple day trips - lots of fun!
