TITLE: Assistant Professor of Sociology
LOCATION:Social Sciences Department; Multi-Campus locations in R.I.
SALARY:Salary commensurate with education and experience
APPOINTMENT:Fall Semester 2011; Tenure-Track; Academic Year Schedule
BASIC FUNCTION: To teach some or all of the following courses: General Sociology, Marriage and Family, Urban Sociology, Social Problems, Cultural Diversity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach at all four campuses and satellite sites, possibly during late afternoons and evenings as part of regular teaching load.
• Advise and assist students regarding Sociology and other Social Science programs.
• Maintain scholarly activities in research and writing within Sociology discipline.
• Collaborate with colleagues to assess and develop Sociology curriculum.
• Participate in departmental and college committee work.
• Engage with colleagues in assessing student learning within discipline and Social Sciences.
• Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community.
• Contribute to a dynamic teaching/learning environment requiring adaptability, creativity, and teamwork.
• Participate in professional development within Sociology discipline.
• Demonstrate commitment to the community college mission and its diverse student populations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of a Master’s degree in Sociology.
• Minimum three years’ recent stand-alone college classroom experience (within last three years) teaching introductory Sociology courses required.
• Demonstrable competence in assigned course content.
• Record of excellence in teaching, curriculum development, outcomes assessment.
• Experience using technology to enhance instruction, manage classroom administrative functions, and communicate effectively with the campus community
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
• Final candidates will be required to provide a teaching demonstration.
