I just went out for a few snowy interviews. Coming from the south too, people were very impressed that I had brought gloves, overcoat, boots, hat, and two scarves. I was worried about it being too "sexy" but I wore black knee high boots with a wedge heel, stockings, knee-length a-line skirts, dress shirt and suit jacket underneath my overcoat. Pants look terrible on me and would look terrible with the boots I had. I was also worried about the snow/ice making my pants wet and then looking even more terrible or causing me to freeze.
I also brought a black wrap sweater for dinners so I could just change from my jacket into that quickly. The one night I wasn't able to do that, we went to a restaurant that made my jacket very garlicky until it visited the dry cleaner.
I have a lot of mix and match pieces. Gray tweed skirt, black skirt, gray skirt and a black and gray jacket so you can mix things a bit more. When walking place to place, I brought out my heavier scarf. When I was indoors, I would wear my lighter scarf which was more professional. I think I gave my talks in my lighter scarf too.
As you can imagine, I had a pretty big laptop bag!
If you don't have any of these things, definitely borrow whatever you can (comfortably)... I agree with the looking prepared... SOOO many people commented that I was prepared for the snow so I can only imagine how those comments would have been had I not been prepared.
Good luck on your interview and congrats!
